Product Description
The secret roster of logging locomotives. It reads like the ABC's of railroad history.
"Alco," "Baldwin", "Climax", "Heisler", "Lima", "Porter", "Willamette". These were companies that manufactured the most popular logging locomotives...the wild iron horse that dared venture into the woods.

Logging railroads were pretty rough and tumble affairs. Tracks were built quickly over rough terrain with plenty of sharp curves. Mainline locomotives were too stiff and fell off the tracks. A special breed of engine was needed. STEAM UP IN THE MOUNTAINS takes us into the logging country of the Pacific Northwest to a hidden location where these engines are kept alive.

Here, steam specialists (almost like wizards) conjure up life from rusty pieces of iron. They share insights about the development of the three different geared-locomotives designs, showing us how they work, and the strong and weak points of each design. Then they show us first hand what it takes to bring five of these logging locomotives to life for a big multi-day celebration for steam enthusiasts. The film ends with a five-locomotive quintuple-header...perhaps the only time this has been seen in well over 50 years.

If you enjoy railroad history and are looking for something different, this is a video you won't want to miss. Discover why there is still STEAM UP IN THE MOUNTAINS.
